Kitchen fitting, from the floor up, by the person who priced it.

Kitchen fitting in Doncaster from £2,650. Rip out, floor, plastering, first-fix plumbing, fitting, worktops, tiling and decorating, all by me. Walls out and steels in for open-plan. Your units from Howdens, Wren, DIY Kitchens or wherever, my fitting.

Buy the kitchen wherever you like: Howdens, Wren, Magnet, DIY Kitchens, Ikea, a local independent. I'll fit it. And I'll do everything around the fitting that normally means four other people: the rip-out, the floor, the plastering, the plumbing, the tiling and the decorating, as on the Scawsby renovation. If a wall needs to come out to open the room up, I'll do that too, with a structural engineer's steel and building control sign-off.

The fitting itself is the easy part if the room's right. The room being right is the work: floor level, walls plumb and flat, services exactly where the plan says. I spend the first days on the room and the last days on the kitchen, and the difference shows in worktop joints that are flat and doors that line up.

My electrician and my Gas Safe engineer do their bits between first and second fix. You get one schedule, one price and one phone number.

from £2,650

Typically 5–10 days on site

What moves the price:

  • Size: £2,650 is a straight swap in a small kitchen with the units where they were; a large kitchen with an island and moved services is £6,000 to £9,000 in fitting
  • Floor and walls: a sound floor and decent plaster keep it cheap; a solid floor that needs digging out is a project in itself
  • Structural work: taking a wall out with a steel is typically £2,500 to £4,500 including the engineer
  • Worktops: quartz and granite are fitted by the fabricator; timber and laminate I do
How I do it
  1. Survey and plan

I check your kitchen plan against the room before anything's ordered, because the supplier's designer hasn't measured your walls. Fixed price agreed.

  2. Rip out and prepare

Old kitchen out, floor sorted (screed, levelling, new boards, or a full dig-out and insulated slab if it's an old solid floor), walls plastered, first-fix plumbing and electrics.

  3. Fit

Base units levelled and fixed, wall units on a rail, worktops cut and jointed (laminate and timber by me; quartz and granite templated and fitted by the fabricator), appliances in, plinths and cornice scribed.

  4. Finish

Splashback tiled or fitted, sink and taps connected, electrician and gas engineer second fix, decorating, snagging list walked through with you.

Questions I get asked
How much does a kitchen fitter cost in Doncaster?

From £2,650 for fitting a kitchen you've bought, including plumbing, plinths, worktops (laminate or timber), and the electrician and gas engineer's second fix. A full job with the floor, plastering, tiling, decorating and a wall out runs well beyond that — send photos and I'll give you a proper figure.

Can I buy the kitchen myself?

Please do. You'll get a better deal at Howdens or DIY Kitchens with a fitter's name on the account than a fitter marking it up to you, and you get exactly what you chose.

Do you do the electrics and gas?

My electrician and Gas Safe engineer do, as part of the job and the price. They certify their work. Everything else, I do.

Can you knock through to the dining room?

Yes. A structural engineer designs the steel (£300 to £500), building control inspects it, and I install it, prop the floor above, and make good. It's about a week added to the job.

Who's doing the work

One person accountable, start to finish.

I'm Jack. I price it, I'm on the tools for it, and it's my name on it. Twelve years on site, a first-class degree in construction management, SMSTS and First Aid, and I operate the excavator myself. Where a job wants more hands I bring in people I've worked with for years and I run them. I cover Doncaster and everywhere within about half an hour of it: Bessacarr, Bawtry, Tickhill, Armthorpe, Thorne, Sprotbrough, Mexborough and over into Rotherham. More about me.
