How it runs
Test the ground
A test pit is filled and timed to size the soakaway, or to show it won't work.
Dig & build
Trench from the downpipe, pit dug, crates wrapped and connected.
Backfill & reinstate
Gravel round the crates, then soil and turf or paving back down.
Common questions
How much does a soakaway cost?
From £950 for a single downpipe. Several downpipes or a whole roof is from £1,500. That includes the dig, crates, pipe, gravel, muck away and reinstating the ground.
Will a soakaway work in clay?
Sometimes, with a bigger pit. The percolation test tells us. If the ground won't take the water we'll suggest a land drain or a sewer connection instead.
Do I need Building Regs approval?
A new soakaway falls under Building Regulations Part H. On an extension the inspector will want to see it. We build stand-alone jobs to the same standard.
Can you fix a soakaway that's stopped working?
Usually. Old rubble soakaways silt up. We dig it out, replace it with crates and add a silt trap.
