Media walls built properly, with the cables already inside.
Media walls in Doncaster from £1,150. Stud frame, recessed TV and electric fire, floating shelves, LED strip, plastered and painted or panelled. Cables run inside the wall before it's closed. 2 to 4 days.
A media wall is a stud wall built in front of your existing one, with the TV and an electric fire recessed into it, shelving, and lighting. Done right it makes the room. Done as a box of plasterboard with a TV screwed to the front, it looks like it.
The bit that matters is what goes in before the plasterboard goes on. I run the power for the TV, the fire and the LEDs inside the stud, along with HDMI and data to wherever the box and the console live, so nothing shows and nothing needs chasing in later. The fire recess is lined and ventilated to the manufacturer's spec so it doesn't overheat. The TV recess is sized to your actual TV with room for the bracket. Then it's plastered, or panelled in slatted wood or MDF panelling, and painted.
I build the wall, do the plastering and the decorating, and my electrician connects it and certifies it. If you want the same room finishing with new flooring or the rest of the joinery, that's the same person on the same job.

What moves the price:
- Size and how much is going in it: a TV recess and two shelves is the £1,150 base; TV, fire, four shelves and LED is £2,000 to £2,800
- Finish: plaster and paint is the base; slatted wood or panelling adds £300 to £800
- The fire: I'll fit one you supply, or supply it; a 50-inch inset electric fire is £400 to £1,000
- Whether you want the rest of the room decorating while I'm there
Design
Sketch of the wall with TV size, fire, shelves and lighting, and the depth it'll come into the room (usually 200 to 300mm).

Services
Sockets, LED driver and cable routes installed by my electrician. HDMI and data pulled through before the wall's closed.

Plasterboard, skim, and either paint, panelling or a textured finish. Shelves fitted, LEDs in, TV and fire mounted.
How much does a media wall cost in Doncaster?
From £1,150 for a plastered and painted stud wall with a recessed TV and shelving. With an electric fire, LED lighting and a panelled finish, £2,000 to £3,000 including the electrician. The fire and TV themselves are on top unless you'd like me to supply them.
How long does it take?
Two to four days including the plastering drying, plus a morning for the electrician.
Does the wall come out much?
200 to 300mm, depending on the fire depth. On a chimney breast wall I can sometimes recess into the old fireplace opening and lose almost nothing.
Can you do a real fire or a log burner?
A log burner needs a proper flue and a HETAS installer, which I'm not. Electric inset fires are what go in media walls and they're what I fit.
